St Joseph's Day Nursery & Pre-School
Our Facilities
St Joseph's Nursery was registered in 1998 and is on the Early Years Register and the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. We are a privately owned setting and operate from converted premises close to Barnsley town centre.
There are nine rooms on two levels available for children's play on the ground and first floors of the building. All children share access to two enclosed outdoor play areas, plus an allotment.
The nursery provides funded early education for two-, three- and four-year-olds. It supports children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and children who speak English as an additional language.
The nursery is open from 8am until 6pm each weekday all year round, excluding Bank Holidays.

Baby Room (Birth – 2 years)
Our baby room is specifically tailored to support your loved ones development in a secure and safe environment.
Every day our highly skilled staff are on hand to create individual plans for you and your child – giving you peace of mind that your needs are being met. They will further provide you with information about your child’s day and all the adventures they have had.
With all this exploring, our separate sleep room offers a calm and safe area to dream about all their adventures.
We can ensure your own home routine can be catered for whilst your little one is in our care.
A large comfortable area awaits inquisitive minds with toys and activities carefully chosen to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Toddler Room (2- 3 years)
Our Toddler room has multiple activities including messy play, sand & water additional sensory equipment to stipulate your children's senses.
Whilst one of our rooms provides children the opportunity to develop and play with water, sand, painting and dough, our second room provides a much quieter escape in order to grow and learn through maths, books, stories and construction.
Always a favourite with all our children, our home corner provides an ideal area for dressing up and role play.
With all this exploring, our separate sleep room offers a calm and safe area to dream about all their adventures.
All our activities are in accordance to the Early years foundation stage whilst meeting your child’s individual needs.
Pre-School (3-5 years)
Our pre-school room caters for children aged 3-5 years. All our activities are planned to the Early Years Foundation Stage.
We aim to encourage social skills and cooperation through play and learning with a strong emphasis on role-play.
Our pre-school rooms focus on motivating and encouraging the children to learn and build on their existing knowledge and skills. Independence and using appropriate behaviour is high on the agenda with many varied activities provided to promote turn-taking, sharing and forming relationships with other children by developing co-operative play and other social skills.
There are opportunities to explore I.T. on the interacting white board and interactive tablet.
We provide a happy, safe and stimulating experience for your child ready for the big step up to primary school.
Outdoors
Welcome to our outside play areas. We provide opportunities for all our children to experience learning inside and outside.
We believe that fresh air and natural light helps children in their learning.
We love to explore, investigate and discover new and exciting facts about the world. We have lots of fun looking for insects and going on bug hunts. We also enjoy playing in our learning areas where we learn all about numbers, letters, shapes, days of the weeks and many more through play.
Our outside area allows learning to continue through play and our activities are planned around the Early years foundation stage. We aim to encourage social skills and cooperation through play.
The outside play area is safe and secluded and offers a range of activities for all.
Children are encouraged to explore and discover nature, wildlife and seasonal changes.
